I love creating these small pieces of artwork and making them unique for each person by adding a name, year or personal message. <br />

As I am a 'snowbird' I have already migrated to Florida for the winter and one immediately thinks, warm, sunshine, palm trees. Well today isn't the norm. Seems a cold front has followed me south and it is very chilly, windy and down right cold here today. So I thought it was the perfect time to reprise my recipe for warm potato soup. It's what's for dinner today. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family does.<br />

I decided on a large pot of soup that I can be enjoyed today and warmed and eaten tomorrow for lunch. I am sure it will leave me feeling very cozy inside. Here is my recipe which is very simple and quick. I hope you enjoy!<br />
<br />
<div>
Ingredients: 6 medium russet potatoes</div>
<div>
1 cup milk (whole or 2%)</div>
<div>
1/4 c chopped onion</div>
<div>
1/2 pound smoked sausage</div>
<div>
1 tsp each butter and olive oil</div>
<div>
1 cup half and half</div>
<div>
1 tsp parsley flakes</div>
<div>
1 tsp celery seeds</div>
<div>
1 egg yolk </div>
<div>
1 tsp salt & pepper to taste </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Peel and dice potatoes and set aside covered in water. Chop onion and dice smoked sausage and saute in pot with butter and olive oil. Saute until onion is clear making certain not to allow the onions to scorch. Once onions are clear, add the drained potatoes to the pot. Add just enough water to cover potatoes. At this time you can add celery seeds and salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Stir occasionally and once the pot begins to boil, lower the temp to simmer. Allow to simmer until potatoes are soft and can be easily mashed with a fork, approximately 30 minutes. Using a potato masher, work the potatoes until most are mashed, but a few cubes are left. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Add to the pot the half and half and 1/2 cup milk holding back 1/2 cup milk. Add egg yolk to 1/2 cup of milk, mixing well and stir into soup mixture. Let soup return to boil, stirring occasionally as it thickens. Taste for additional seasoning at that time. Can be served with crackers, a dollop of sour cream, chopped chives or</div>
<div>
any topping of your choice. Guaranteed to warm you from the inside out.<br />
<br />
So make a big pot, sit down and check out my new ornaments on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams">http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams</a>.</div>

It represents a cheery welcome and dresses the door for the seasons. I however feel that a wreath can dress up many areas of a home, from the front door, the mantel, a wall space or anywhere your imagination takes you. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/"><img border="0" height="264" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-93HaUAjnwMM/T57_96U3bFI/AAAAAAAAAfo/rOIKjGJqWHU/s320/gate+w+wreath.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here as demonstrated by Funky Junk interiors, a twig wreath has been attached to a gate and used as a headboard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://rustic-crafts.com/"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KK13246duvw/T58ATC1xsTI/AAAAAAAAAfw/7LRvw3-f52o/s320/Wreath+mantel.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here a grapevine wreath and a twig wreath have been attached to a window pane. Along with the cheery lights and the crock jugs, this rustic fireplace takes on a whole new look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This bright blue pip berry wreath adds just the right accent to this ladder made from old tobacco lathe. Just the right touch to draw your eye to this collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And if you have too many wreaths, then do like Funky Junk did here;</div>

Look around your home and see where you can add a wreath to bring a little cheer inside.</div>

We have sprung ahead and another great season of flowers and fun await..<br />
<br />
As some of you may know, we recently purchased a mobile home in Florida. It will be our winter home, a place to come to when the days get short and the temperatures fall cold in Ohio. It is definately a fixer-upper, but that allows us to make it our own. So between working on materials for my online store and doing shows, we are making small and large changes every day. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKdIGHC2GwXcnYDv1OpHM2bUF-f8-BUdt5RljoYYU0hsVR7rKubgoxY0J6nuczU8t7Cns36Q_urFaO5B8WNstt8WZQVQyVSMzaUidWd9-FTqDWtl2VHbU5uOFCv8i5Bgh9gfvnx9EGO5Rp/s1600/2012-04-19+09.39.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKdIGHC2GwXcnYDv1OpHM2bUF-f8-BUdt5RljoYYU0hsVR7rKubgoxY0J6nuczU8t7Cns36Q_urFaO5B8WNstt8WZQVQyVSMzaUidWd9-FTqDWtl2VHbU5uOFCv8i5Bgh9gfvnx9EGO5Rp/s320/2012-04-19+09.39.15.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Our first call was to spruce up the front so that we weren't a disgrace to the neighborhood. We have repainted, coated the roof and replaced several windows. I think the new color of beige on white makes the place look quite nice.<br />
<br />
I have been shopping for flowering bushes that would work in the south. I am familiar with gardening in Ohio, but not sure about Florida. I found that Azaleas seem to be the best bet, so I purchased three from a fellow crafter recently; two red and one white. I have also planted some pinks, an interesting Geranium and replaced my honeysuckle that I lost up north in the winter. I found two plants that resemble daisies, and I think their yellow and purple flowers make for a nice accent.<br />

<br />
My veggies are grown in containers this year.. This allows me to continue to enjoy them even when I go north. I have a bush tomato already with several tomatoes, some bush cucumbers and my planter herb garden.<br />

I am enjoying the new adventure of gardening in the south. We traveled down to Everglades this weekend to do the ever popular Everglade Seafood Festival. This event has been a favorite of mine since the first time I exhibited in 2009. The crowds are large and appreciative and the food is out of this world. Every type of seafood you could ask for as well as the standards, BBQ, corndogs and funnel cakes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The event spans a three day period and offers non-stop music. There were local entertainers, David Nail from Nashville, The Wild Eyed Southern Boys with the headliner being the Low Cash Cowboys. The Cowboys are very entertaining and brought the crowd to their feet and playing their latest soon to be released, C-O-U-N-T-R-Y. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As I said, the crowds were fantastic with shoulder to shoulder people all through the weekend. The weather was gorgeous and the motorcyclists came out in force. There were bikes there from Ontario, Canada; Athens County, Ohio and all parts of Florida. A great chapter from Ft. Myers came in on Sunday, 22 members strong.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had my display set up with slate, wood signs and pet signs. I received many favorable comments, and did a couple custom signs while I was there. The dog and cat signs were hot sellers and I sold a few wooden and slate signs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you are in the area, or thinking of a little vacation, this festival is held the 1st full weekend in February every year in the small town of Everglade City, where time seems to stand still. I know I look forward to next year; enjoying more music, more food and more fun. </div>

It has been awhile,and it has been a busy and tough several months for my family and myself. As many of you know, my father was struggling with Parkinsons and dementia for some time. He lost his battle on August 10. Though we miss him terribly, we know he is in a better place and is at peace. We think of him often with love and chuckle as we think of the special moments we had with him. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>My holiday season kept me busy, and though it was rewarding, I am glad it is over and I am now I am back in Florida. Mike and I have purchased a retirement place in the small town of Inverness, Florida.. It is in a retirement community of 55 and olders, (yes, I qualify) and we are settling in to our <em>new</em> place. During the next few months I plan on sharing our home with you as well as all the remodeling we plan to do. Nothing too serious but just making it our own with our personal touch in decorating. Our delimna is, what room to start with first. We struggle everyday with our demons to tear into every room at once. What a disaster that would be. Here are a few pictures of my workshop, probably the last to be worked on. <br />

We are filling up our craft show schedule in the south, and just finished the Manatee festival in Crystal River. It was a nice festival, my work was well received and I met some very nice people. This weekend we are doing a local farmers market in Spring Hill. <br />
<br />
I hope you will stop back often. I will have show updates, new products, some how-tos and of course my home remodeling. I am sure I could use some assistance. <br />

Later... Karen<br />

I have been very busy with a couple new business lines and working on new products for my KPDreams line. As well, most of you know I spend my winters in Florida so that I can help with my Dad's care. He is in late stages of Parkinsons and cannot walk. And the dementia proves a real challenge when most days he doesn't know who you are. But, that can't be changed, so I try and make the best of it.<br />
<br />
My new shop on Etsy, Somethingbluewedding, which specializes in wedding, evening and prom accessories, is my newest store. At the present I am practicing the art of making flower accents, but hope to venture into more elaborate items. Available is custom items to match the colors of the wedding party, and we have even provided a bride-to-be table centerpieces for her bridal shower. I am pretty excited about this line as it gives me a new learning experience.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYa8xnqV8aK0NfzcQ8ZLOYI9ZDpQS3JmDmOw3pfrWVjgXxrtOr97-9eF5RwwxyemTzEJBkZIrkUYJUbgCdNmsHieJxO-WFUwqSHFgSxDygQGrVpXh0v-tT7-tdPXCcMq2ijYKg-CayiLUb/s1600/white+flower+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="252" width="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYa8xnqV8aK0NfzcQ8ZLOYI9ZDpQS3JmDmOw3pfrWVjgXxrtOr97-9eF5RwwxyemTzEJBkZIrkUYJUbgCdNmsHieJxO-WFUwqSHFgSxDygQGrVpXh0v-tT7-tdPXCcMq2ijYKg-CayiLUb/s320/white+flower+4.jpg" /></a></div><br />

I have also been designing and building a website for a friend of mine that specializes in western wear. Sunshine Western Hats is a family business built by Char and Ed Pratton, and with the help of their two sons, Jim & Aaron they travel throughout the southeast and eastern United States selling hats, attire and western accessories. The website also has proven to be a job as they have had me list over 600 items to date, as well as designing the graphics. <br />
<br />
I will sign off for now, as it is dinner time and I must put on my cooking cap and fix dinner. I hope you will stop by again so I can share some of my new designs.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-87571453074943580402011-01-27T18:00:00.027-05:002011-01-27T18:00:01.082-05:00Does this depress you?<a href="http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d41afa156096d9154cbc218/green-depression-glass-montage" target="_blank"><img src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/DepressionGlassTreasury-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br />
It comes in different colors, designs, shapes and sizes and is referred to as "depression glass, but finding one of these colorful pieces of glass, always brings me joy. <br />
<br />
I was recently included in a treasury of green depression glass. My inclusion was a green glass bowl. Being from Ohio, this glass is very plentiful and many discard it, but the fact that is was made in U.S.A., and was pressed glass was enough to catch my eye. <br />
<br />
Depression glass was manufactured during the Great Depression between the 1920's and 1940's in the midwest, and often given away as promotional pieces; included in oats, laundry soaps, given at movie theaters and gas stations. The manufacturing process of pressing the glass into molds allowed it to be made very inexpensively. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/65624638/vases-hoosier-glass-pair-diamond-pattern" target="_blank"><img src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/hoosiervases.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br />
<br />
Depression glass was made in several colors; from amber, pink, green, blue, green and clear, and others as well. Most people recognize the pink as it seems to be the most sought after, but in fact, each color was made from the same molds during the same time period. White or milk glass is a form of depression glass as it was also created by using molds. <br />
<br />
Take a look at some of the various depression glass items I currently offer and remember the first time you saw a piece of this glass. See, it isn't depressing at all.<br />

This is the time of year you fire up the stove for some comfort food to take the chill away. You don't want to spend a lot of time, and if you didn't make it to the market before the big storm hit, you need to use pantry items. I have the perfect dish. This frugal and quick recipe was all the rage in the late 60's and early 70's, fueled by the casserole craze and the prices and availability of canned tuna. <br />
<br />
I enjoy a good tuna noodle casserole but have found it dry and bland at times. I set out to enhance the texture and taste. Here are my adjustments and ingredients.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TS8qvrSJx-I/AAAAAAAAAXE/zzmYzSBUwM0/s1600/DSC00549.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TS8qvrSJx-I/AAAAAAAAAXE/zzmYzSBUwM0/s320/DSC00549.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
1 bag of wide egg noodles, boiled and drained. Be sure to add oil to water.<br />
2 cans tuna packed in water (preferably not albacore, too dry)<br />
1 can cream of mushroom soup<br />
2 tbsp of mayonaise (not salad dressing)<br />
1/4 cup of sour cream.<br />
1/4 cup of milk<br />
1 cup peas, either frozen or canned (optional)<br />
1/4 cup of bread crumbs (crushed corn flakes can be used as well)<br />
2 tbsp of butter cubed<br />
1/4 tsp Mrs Dash (regular)<br />
Salt & pepper to taste.<br />
Loaf of crusty bread.<br />
<br />
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.<br />
<br />
Combine cooked noodles, mushroom soup, mayonaise, sour cream, milk, and seasonings in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly. Add peas if desired, and remix. Now without draining the tuna, add to the bowl and stir lightly trying not to break up all the tuna. Over mixing mashes the tuna into small pieces which brings nothing to the table as far as taste. <br />
<br />
Now select a lovely 1 1/2 quart baking dish from your cupboard. Remember this casserole will be served on the table from this dish, so make it something warm and inviting. Presentation is everything. Grease the casserole dish well and add the contents of the bowl. Combine butter cubes with bread crumbs or cereal crumbs at this time and sprinkle across the top. Place in a preheated oven for 30 minutes until bubbly. Remove and let stand for 10 minutes and you are ready to serve. A loaf of crusty bread is an excellent complement for this dish. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TS8rxH9gEhI/AAAAAAAAAXM/5vfOs2mp0N8/s1600/DSC00550.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TS8rxH9gEhI/AAAAAAAAAXM/5vfOs2mp0N8/s320/DSC00550.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Here are a few options for casseroles.<br />
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/65713814/pyrex-cream-golden-acorn-pattern-dish" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/creamwgoldpyrexbaker.jpg" /></a><br />

I hope you enjoy and stay warm.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-82673960354112942452011-01-05T15:00:00.001-05:002011-01-05T15:00:39.549-05:00The new year, a time to get organizedThis morning I was alerted to a treasury that one of my fellow etsians had created and used one of my items. I quickly looked, as I love these features, and found it was my vintage silverware tray that had been handmade out of several old dairy boxes. I believe they were butter as the words butter can be seen, as well as the word Fairmont. <a href="http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d244243e8988eefac9e6d06/organize-for-the-new-year" target="_blank"><img src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/organizing-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br />
<br />
This brought me to think, why not repurpose several of my items into something to reorganize. Perhaps an old cheese box, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/61930806/vintage-kraft-wooden-american-cheese-box" target="_blank"><img src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/kraftcheesebox.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> by a sink to hold soap dispensers or scratch pads.<p><p>Or a lovely depression era green vase to hold pencils, make up or scissors? <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/65316105/depression-era-green-glass-vase" target="_blank"><img src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/smallgreenglassvase.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br />
<p><p>Just before Christmas I sold a lovely piece of vasemate <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/45183224/candy-dish-milk-glass-scalloped-edge" target="_blank"><img src="http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz139/kpugh4047/Copyofvasline2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>and was told it was to be used as a soap dish in a bathroom.. What a fresh approach to decorating.<br />
<br />
I hope you look at objects you have around the house or perhaps on your favorite Etsy store and find an <i>old</i> object for a <i>new</i> purpose.<br />
<br />
Have a great day and happy shopping.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-30791344586398814232010-12-16T14:46:00.001-05:002010-12-16T14:47:57.648-05:00A Time for ChangeSome people do it in the spring, some in the summer, but I find cleaning and organizing my home and life feels better in the late fall and winter. Perhaps it is because of my busy season in the fall and I feel I have neglected my home, business, family and friends, or perhaps it is the fact I am trapped inside and have little else to distract me. Regardless, the process has begun.<br />
<br />
Business has been challenging this year. The last few years has brought concern, but this seemed to be the cresting of the battle. My crafter friends and associates all sing the same song of how their sales are down, and in most cases, there is one thing to blame, the economy. So it is time to review the process, the product and the business' direction. If you are like me, I love the creating process of this life, so I am going to scrutinize everything to continue to do what I love. Change my show schedule, change the product and mostly change the way I market my line of products.<br />
<br />
This brings me to my 'change.' Effective immediately I am directing my online business to my Etsy store. Etsy does a great job of marketing, and networking and has provided me with a excellent venue to sell. This will allow me to concentrate on one site that is bringing the most traffic. I can add more new products, from my handmade items to my line of vintage.<br />
<br />
I thank you for your support over the years, and hope you will continue to visit my shop. <a href="http://www.kpdreams.com/">www.kpdreams.com</a> which will take you to my Etsy store and my e-mail address will remain the same; <a href="mailto:karen@kpdreams.com">karen@kpdreams.com</a>.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtvw8NQt_Fz4-vqjiJ07G3N3A7awGvRMLhb-FRsdvqMLeCBifSumCerjvfx0PuYzw9OFE-xf7ekngDeYbemvLgKs90cHg9SnTtbjLcyjReTx9GNnzKZk_RzyckL_cBZyadZlT7iKGomHRQ/s1600/thanksgiving.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtvw8NQt_Fz4-vqjiJ07G3N3A7awGvRMLhb-FRsdvqMLeCBifSumCerjvfx0PuYzw9OFE-xf7ekngDeYbemvLgKs90cHg9SnTtbjLcyjReTx9GNnzKZk_RzyckL_cBZyadZlT7iKGomHRQ/s1600/thanksgiving.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Spent Thanksgiving at my son's house. A full house of family and friends and it made for a very enjoyable day. The food was very good and of course there was plenty to go around. Spent the day and then went off to set up for the Hara arena craft show in Dayton.<br />
<br />
This past weekend I helped a friend in Huntington, WV. It wasn't the show we had hoped for, but everyone seemed to have a good time. The Lions club puts this on as a way of raising money for their many charitable causes. I believe they were successful in their venture.<br />
<br />
I have been working on a few one of a kind projects and thought I would share some of those. The first is a snowman painted on an old vintage ironing board. This board was unassembled and I painted a lovely face, attached a hat brim and some festive trim and made sure his orange nose was fitting for his size. The snowman sold very quickly at my show in Muncie.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TP7q-7ERDrI/AAAAAAAAAWo/LtgOxe_nuBI/s1600/snowman+suitcase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TP7q-7ERDrI/AAAAAAAAAWo/LtgOxe_nuBI/s1600/snowman+suitcase.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This old vintage Samsonite suitcase was just sitting there waiting for me to paint on it. I couldn't resist the star with the berry vines and on the other side, I painted a sheep with two stars on either side. The entire suitcase was painted black to give that old look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TP7rOfmoVqI/AAAAAAAAAWs/6uHNLXBlk5U/s1600/suitcase+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TP7rOfmoVqI/AAAAAAAAAWs/6uHNLXBlk5U/s320/suitcase+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<br />
I am currently working on list a lot of new items on Etsy. Etsy has been real good to me this holiday season, and all year for that matter. It continues to be a great venue to showcase my work. As well, I am heading to Rockbridge, Ohio to stock my booth at the Appalachian Art and Craft mall. As I said before, tis the season for friends, family and of course shopping.<br />
<br />
Well, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and that all your wishes come true. I am sure mine will, being with family is all a girl could want. Merry Christmas!KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-25338483024229725322010-11-09T21:45:00.001-05:002010-11-09T22:26:01.690-05:00A sign for the time....relaxingThis Indian summer weather is a nice surprise. With the warm weather it is allowing me a last chance to finish some overlooked painting projects. One of my favorites is my signs. From Welcome to our Deck, Come sit on our porch, or Scrooge lives here; each one is done in a choice of colors, white, red and black. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TNoKIq2oq2I/AAAAAAAAAWI/DFmrndIZOHE/s1600/deck+sign.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="94" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TNoKIq2oq2I/AAAAAAAAAWI/DFmrndIZOHE/s320/deck+sign.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span id="goog_1363779537"></span><span id="goog_1363779538"></span></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TNoMUTXY88I/AAAAAAAAAWQ/z07px5fH3UY/s1600/signs+1+resized.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TNoMUTXY88I/AAAAAAAAAWQ/z07px5fH3UY/s320/signs+1+resized.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<br />
I enjoy painting these signs on treated fence boards and giving them that old worn look. To further enhance the look, each sign is stained in a warm oak color. Hangers are added for displaying.<br />
<br />
These signs have been a real hit with my shows in Ohio and I look forward to introducing them in Florida with my new garden line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-86741818487799242062010-11-04T10:35:00.009-04:002010-11-04T10:42:40.604-04:00Thrifting Thursday - Boy did that feel goodSince coming home last spring, I have been forced to limit my thrifting trips. Though Ohio has some great garage sales, I am usually working on weekends and can't enjoy the thrill of the chase. That is why when in Florida, the thrift stores are great. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TNLB3LxsH0I/AAAAAAAAAWA/M7Xtcc8J8vM/s1600/checkered+plates+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TNLB3LxsH0I/AAAAAAAAAWA/M7Xtcc8J8vM/s320/checkered+plates+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Yesterday while returning from getting a much needed hair cut. I stopped at the new Goodwill Store in Buckeye Lake, Ohio. This was a grocery store in it's past life, and is very big inside. So I wasn't surprised when I stepped in and found wide aisles, plenty of light and lots of merchandise. And the staff was so helpful and nice.<br />
<br />
I was fortunate to find a couple of new items. First was a set of Melamine picnic plates. These beautiful plates are done in the red checked picnic design and are in great shape. A set of 4; wow! These are sure to be a hit on my shop on Etsy.<br />
<br />
The second find was a pyrex mixing bowl. Now I have a set of three of these bowls now on Etsy, but this particular bowl is of an odd size and I just can't decide if I want to sell it or keep in my RV for my use. Decisions, decisions. I also found several pieces of glassware that I will be using to make my new line of yard art.<br />
<br />
A day of accomplishment in my mind....I am sure my hubby won't look at it the same way, as we are after all living in an RV. Hope you have a great day, and check out my shop on Etsy; <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams">www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams</a> for these great finds and more.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-29820143820355286282010-10-29T06:41:00.030-04:002011-10-04T09:08:50.896-04:00Potato Soup to warm your heart<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, fall is here and it brings that chill in the air. Working hard on my fall projects and while pondering dinner, I remembered this post from last year. Well, I think it holds very true for this year as well. I am still looking for and painting on spoons; and tonights pot of potato soup will warm the soul. I hope you enjoy this 'repeat'. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>I have been busy painting spoon ornaments for the holiday season. I have several designs for Ohio State Buckeyes, Ohio University Bobcats, Cincinnati Bearcats and many more. I enjoy the challenge that painting on this small surface gives me, and am always looking for new spoons to use. I have used all the spoons that I have with the exception of my personal stash in the silverware drawer. So when looking for spoons, I headed for the drawer and immediately thought, "how will I enjoy my warm and comforting soup?" Which caused me to think of a good warm soup for dinner. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCPmrOJ__eHkWZXuzWOXa4agZMbv2gojteRtrCrtyG8x2m3MDEMOwo5kPQ_uDawhLt38-31z6ksqOsoCHQffibaJv2rSTdA6BpzIKcP-8XtE007hwMjkMasImEFUdpdgg9tJtp8lPupojw/s1600/pot+soup+blog+photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCPmrOJ__eHkWZXuzWOXa4agZMbv2gojteRtrCrtyG8x2m3MDEMOwo5kPQ_uDawhLt38-31z6ksqOsoCHQffibaJv2rSTdA6BpzIKcP-8XtE007hwMjkMasImEFUdpdgg9tJtp8lPupojw/s320/pot+soup+blog+photo+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I decided on potato soup. A large pot of soup that I can enjoy today and which can be warmed and eaten tomorrow for lunch. I am sure it will leave me feeling very cozy inside. Here is my recipe which is very simple and quick. I hope you enjoy!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"> Ingredients: 6 medium russet potatoes</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1/4 c chopped onion</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1/2 pound smoked sausage</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 tsp each butter and olive oil</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 cup half and half</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 tsp parsley flakes</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 tsp celery seeds</div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 egg yolk </div><div style="text-align: left;"> 1 tsp salt & pepper to taste </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Peel and dice potatoes and set aside covered in water. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Add to the pot the half and half and 1/2 cup milk holding back 1/2 cup milk. Add egg yolk to 1/2 cup of milk, mixing well and stir into soup mixture. Let soup return to boil, stirring occasionally as it thickens. Taste for additional seasoning at that time. Can be served with crackers, a dollop of sour cream, chopped chives or </div><div style="text-align: left;">any topping of your choice. Guaranteed to warm you from the inside out.<br />
<br />
So make a big pot, sit down and check out my new ornaments on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams">http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams</a>. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

It is a great way to show your spirit for the team on your front door or wall. Today, keeping with the Buckeye spirit, I am showing my hand painted lampshade. I have taken a kraft paper shade and painted a winding vine around the base and top with leaves and painted buckeyes and an O in the front with the buckeye leaves and another buckeye. What a tribute to Ohio State. The lampshade fits down over a standard light bulb and measures approx 10" across the bottom and 10" high. All these designs can be found at <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams"><b>http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams</b></a>. Be sure to follow my blog as I will be adding more team items in the next few weeks.<br />

Boy has it been a while. As most of you know, September and October, are the busiest months in the crafter's world. I have been traveling throughout the midwest exhibiting at shows and working very hard to keep up my inventory. As a result, I have had to neglect some of my other projects such as this blog, www.kpdreams.com and www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Vbc44HygHBXene9Eq6kO8e3iIpYvkLEG6KfLTbit6w8BS92y2PBprG4b6nfMzzbic0rhyphenhyphenE7yH8EA3APntKyuojdPHRM0aM1ddHnrLaNPlMBTjehWf3xoGrwyB6k8eukPMTaS5tohyphenhyphenu1W/s1600/osu+wreath+resized.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Vbc44HygHBXene9Eq6kO8e3iIpYvkLEG6KfLTbit6w8BS92y2PBprG4b6nfMzzbic0rhyphenhyphenE7yH8EA3APntKyuojdPHRM0aM1ddHnrLaNPlMBTjehWf3xoGrwyB6k8eukPMTaS5tohyphenhyphenu1W/s320/osu+wreath+resized.JPG" width="268" /></a></div>The shows have been great this year. The rewards are meeting my customers face to face and getting their feedback and reactions to my work. They often offer great new suggestions and twists on items that I have on display. My RV slates have been a great hit as well as some new sayings on my dog bones. And look at the new Ohio State wreath I have designed. A new twist on an old idea.<br />
<br />
I am going to keep this short today as I have several areas to update. But, just know; I am back and intend to list several new items on Etsy within the next few days as well as updating of my website. <i>See you soon</i>!KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-50769004999912327822010-07-16T17:17:00.000-04:002010-07-16T17:17:53.428-04:00Christmas in July Sale - Etsy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

His profession is that of an over the road truck driver and involves a lot of time waiting and uncertainty as to when he will get home. Instead of hanging out alone, I stayed at my son’s as he lives only 20 minutes from his main terminal. <br />
<br />
With that said, I have been busy on the computer, listing on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams">Etsy</a>, tweaking my show schedule, and deciding if I will continue with my online store or not. Well the decision has been made; yes, I will continue <a href="http://www.kpdreams.com/">www.kpdreams.com</a>. I know it is very consuming to keep it updated, and I realize I can sell on Etsy, but the idea of having my own store which I can sell what I want appeals to me. And this store carries my business name, which provides my products with brand identity. <br />
<br />
Many of you may not realize but I offer my products through several venues. First, my online store <a href="http://www.kpdreams.com/">www.kpdreams.com</a>. I have been operating my website in some fashion since the late 90’s. I also sell at craft shows and events throughout the eastern US and that includes the south in the winter months. <br />
<br />
I have my products in a lovely booth at the <a href="" ref="http://www.appalachianartandcraftmall.com">Appalachian Art and Craft Mall</a> in Rockbridge, Ohio. It sets just north of Logan in the very well traveled Hocking Hills area on Route 33. This area is home to <a href="http://www.oldmanscave.net/">Old Man’s Cave</a>. <br />
<br />
Then I have my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/kpdreams.">Etsy store</a>, Here I offer a variety of products from vintage, handmade and some supplies. My last item listed brought my store to 100 items for sale. There is a little for everyone there. <br />
<br />
And I cannot forget, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/KP-Dreams-Artwork-and-Design/212612196490%20">Facebook</a>. Become a fan to get the latest info on my shows, travels and new products. And follow me on <a href="http://twitter.com/kpdreams">Twitter</a><br />
<br />
Well, with all that said, I am exhausted. I had better get to work creating something. I hope you will check out my stores and sites and I hope to see you in person down the road.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-12224452074538458792010-06-23T11:33:00.006-04:002010-10-28T18:22:05.713-04:00let's be festiveWow, the 4th of July is creeping up on me and I love to share the 4th with family and friends. Make it a great day!KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-42590854639589389592010-06-20T22:19:00.008-04:002010-10-28T18:23:39.126-04:00Sunday evening,Well, another week gone, and a weekend in the bag. This weekend was spent at Dulcimer Days, in Coshocton, Ohio. This event has been held in historic Roscoe Village in previous years. Set among the period buildings and store fronts, on the brick streets, this was a true treat. However, the economy has caused the Roscoe Village community to cancel this event, and the Chamber of Commerce chose to hold it downtown Coshocton on the square. <br />
<br />
The weather was good, a little hot, but thankfully no rain. The breeze was good all weekend and it carried the sounds of dulicers, mandolyns, cellos, harps and guitars through the trees and air. There was music everywhere, and singing, my goodness, I can't forget the singing. A great time was had by all. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately this was to be a selling event and though there was plenty of music, there were very few people; and fewer customers. A sad situation as it was a good festival in the past. Another victim of the economy.<br />
<br />
As well, it was Father's day, and I am sure a multitued of BBQ's, cookouts and dinners, were in order. And so it should be, a day of celebration of Dad's, with family close at hand. I spoke to my Dad in Florida, and a little confused on some things, but he sounded strong and well. And Mike, though he reminds me continually he isn't my Dad, he was stuck working with me, in the park, with the sound of light dulimer music in the air.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-10586523406053379782010-06-09T09:06:00.022-04:002010-10-28T18:24:34.911-04:00Free Give awayIt is raining here today, so I will do laundry. I have been pondering how to structure my "<i></i>FIRST"<i></i> giveaway. I know it will be chosen from a list of followers. My husband has picked a number of followers and is keeping that number deeply buried in his mind. I am curious to see how close he will be and if he will able to retrieve it when the time comes. <br />
<br />
<b></b>The winner has to be a follower of my blog and must leave a comment on this blog and no where else. If you are not currently a follower, just click on the follow button to begin to follow me. <br />
<br />
You must have either a blog or an e-mail to list. I would hate it if I could not notify you when you win. And if you don't post a comment I will assume you are just signing up to win something. I will draw the winner from those comments received; and only those comments. No comments sent to my e-mail or through any of my other connections, just the comments left on my blog. <br />
<br />
And do not repost this giveaway on your blog or anywhere else. It will disqualify you. I am offering this to my followers, not to promote your blog or site.<br />
<br />
The winner will be drawn on June 28th and notified thereafter. Just in time to enjoy the 4th.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA-WdwBfaEI/AAAAAAAAAS0/q8F2o6oAoNU/s1600/fireworks.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480764709384710210" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA-WdwBfaEI/AAAAAAAAAS0/q8F2o6oAoNU/s320/fireworks.jpg" style="cursor: pointer; float: left; height: 182px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 200px;" /></a><br />
Now the next thing, what to give away. I know I will include a personalized slate. I am working on a new patriotic slate, so with the 4th of July coming up, I believe that should be the slate of choice. I have a friend that makes lovely totes, so I have enlisted her assistance in making me a custom tote just for this occasion. This makes a great start, but I am sure there will be more, the quest continues. <br />
<br />
Keep checking in for more details, and I will keep digging for the "treasures". If anyone out there has any insight or suggestions I would love to hear them.<b></b><br />
<br />
Now off to the ribbon store for more ribbon. <br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping and make it a great day.KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9208124043583774913.post-60956045291709626012010-06-08T09:50:00.016-04:002010-06-09T09:03:52.050-04:00Call me a freak! A magnet freak.I am a magnet freak. Until I decided to live in my RV, my household fridge was covered with them. Magnets of every type; sayings, frames for kids pictures, calendars from businesses and my various designs of magnets.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA5Ln6yJg_I/AAAAAAAAASM/sqBaXCgOtFU/s1600/magnet+art+(1).JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA5Ln6yJg_I/AAAAAAAAASM/sqBaXCgOtFU/s320/magnet+art+(1).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480400945723048946" /></a><br /><br />Yesterday I started working on a new line of tag magnets. These are cut out of wooden shapes made to look like manila pricing tags. I painted them various colors from prim to chic and went about looking for the perfect sayings. Here is a shot of the tags prior to decorating. <br />Using a permanent pen I wrote sayings such as “You had me at woof”, “The only thing normal in this house is the washer” and “I love my cat” for just a few. So many sayings, so little time. <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA5LoeEh94I/AAAAAAAAASU/Ifh0Wn7hSpM/s1600/magnet+art.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 137px; height: 105px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA5LoeEh94I/AAAAAAAAASU/Ifh0Wn7hSpM/s320/magnet+art.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480400955195389826" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA5LosJiCvI/AAAAAAAAASc/15OiSmCzlGQ/s1600/magnet+art+(3).JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 126px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA5LosJiCvI/AAAAAAAAASc/15OiSmCzlGQ/s320/magnet+art+(3).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480400958974462706" /></a><br /><br /><br />Then the sealing process. Each one was sealed with an interior varnish for easy cleaning and durability. Letting each one dry now it was time to try to match the right complementing ribbon.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA-Q79sSr1I/AAAAAAAAASs/AJE2HmsG7BA/s1600/magnet+art+(2).JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 177px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2pBRGgw-Cy4/TA-Q79sSr1I/AAAAAAAAASs/AJE2HmsG7BA/s320/magnet+art+(2).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5480758631380201298" /></a><br />Uh Oh! A snag. I like the prim ones with the homespun ribbon, but did not like any of the ribbons that had been purchased for the chic magnets. Back to the drawing board.<br /><br />The next task will be a trip to my nearest craft store for a selection of perfect ribbons. I will take my tags with me this time to make the perfect match. Then applying the magnet and all done, ready to sell on Etsy or my next craft show. <br /><br />Hope you enjoyed these and I will share the finished product in a few days. See ya! and make it a great day!KPDreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11022758254484417357noreply@blogger.com1
